Arizona Agriculture Teachers Association
Resolution – CTE Funding Priority List
Presented to the Association for Career and Technical Education of Arizona
for Action
Whereas the vision of Career and Technical Education in Arizona is to ensure a dynamic
workforce by fully developing every student’s career and academic potential, and
Whereas the mission of Career and Technical Education in Arizona is to prepare Arizona
students for workforce success and continuous learning, and
Whereas there is a need to prepare students for high wage/high demand occupations and
career pathways to enhance the competitive edge and economic development of Arizona,
and
Whereas a core value of Career and Technical Education in Arizona includes showcasing
innovative and exemplary practices in quality Career and Technical Education programs
that include work-based learning opportunities, and
Whereas the current funding priority list used by the Arizona Department of Education to
fund local Career and Technical Education Programs uses incomplete, inaccurate and
biased information regarding job opportunities, specifically in agriculture, and
Whereas the Arizona Department of Economic Security who provides job data relative to
the preparation of the funding priority list does not keep records relative to agricultural job
opportunities and some agricultural jobs that are related to business, marketing, science,
education and/or entrepreneurship are not coded as jobs in the agricultural area, and
current 4-digit CIP-code inaccurately reflects agricultural employment.
Therefore be it resolved that the Association for Career and Technical Education of
Arizona, to ensure all quality career opportunities are represented accurately in the funding
priority list, form a committee to investigate and evaluate the data and the data collection
system, and
Be it further resolved that the committee gather data relative to how other states provide
funding to local education agencies relative to Career & Technical Education and
investigate the process utilizing the State Director’s Career Cluster Initiative which lend
itself to a multiple 2-digit CIP-code calculation, and
Be it further resolved that the committee make recommendations to the Arizona
Department of Education regarding its finding for future calculations of the funding priority
list.
