JOB DESCRIPTION: 1.0 2.0 JOB SUMMARY: 1.1 Consultant Transplant Surgeon must be able to work independently and conduct a surgery on their own from start to finish. The surgeon will determine exactly what needs to be done to a patient and decide just how much help they need in the operating room. 1.2 To work in collaboration with the transplant nephrologists in the overall management of the transplant patients with special concentration on the surgical aspects. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 2.1 Report to Clinical Director of General Surgery. 2.2 Attend on call duties according to the requirements of the department. 2.3 To be specialize in organ transplants in patients. 2.4 To perform surgeries to transplant a heart, liver, kidney, or even parts of the brain to a patient who is suffering terminal illness from a defective or damaged organ. 2.5 Analyze patient’s medical history, medication allergies, physical condition, and examination results to verify operation’s necessity and to determine best procedure. 2.6 Follow established surgical techniques during the operation. 2.7 Prescribe preoperative and postoperative treatments and procedures, such as sedatives, diets, antibiotics, etc. 2.8 Examine patients to provide information on medical condition and surgical risk. 2.9 Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, assistants, specialists, residents and other medical staff. 2.10 Provide consultation and surgical assistance to other physicians and surgeons. No: Issue: Page: DEPARTMENT: General Surgery JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: SUR/ENT/J 010 1 2 of 3 Consultant Transplant Surgeon 2.11 Refer patients to medical specialist or other practitioners when necessary. 2.12 Examine instruments, equipment, and operating room to ensure sterility. 2.13 Prepare case histories. 2.14 Manage surgery services, including planning, scheduling and coordination, determination of procedures, and procurement of supplies and equipment. 2.15 Conduct research to develop and test surgical techniques that can improve operating procedures and outcomes. 2.16 Use clinical problem solving techniques and follow confidentiality procedures. 2.17 Use counseling techniques 2.18 Identifying the developmental needs of others and coaching, mentoring, or otherwise helping others to improve their knowledge of skills. 2.19 Available for on-call for transplant patients. 2.20 Perform other duties within the realm of his qualification and experience. 3.0 HOURS OF WORK: 48 hours weekly 4.0 REQUIREMENTS: 4.1 Qualifications or Relevant Experience: Must be a Doctorate degree in medical science with a focus on transplant surgery (general/urologist/vascular/endocrine surgeon with at least 5 years experience in transplant centre) 4.2 Experience: At least two (2) to three (3) years Transplant fellowship in a recognized transplant centre (post Saudi Board or equivalent qualification in general surgery, urology, vascular or endocrine surgery).
