Moezone News September 9, 2015 Dear Parents, I am delighted to be teaching this wonderful group of third graders! Hopefully, your child came home with a smile and lots of enthusiasm about our class. I'm excited to create a great team atmosphere and an environment where we can all be challenged to learn and grow. Brookside’s annual Back-to-School Night is Wednesday, September 30th. I will be presenting important information about my program and expectations. Please be seated in my classroom (Room 309) in time for a 6:30 start; we will finish at 7:10. This is an evening for parents only. I hope to see all of you there! I also look forward to meeting with you on the afternoon of October 14th, 15th or 16th to get further acquainted and discuss goals for your child. I’ll send home conference sign-up information next week. “What are Boomerangs?” For those of you that don’t know, a Boomerang is the Brookside way of sending home important weekly mail. The large brown envelope goes home with your child on Tuesday afternoons (with the exception of today) and comes back to school Wednesday mornings. Sign what needs to be signed, put any signed forms back in the envelope, put your signature on the appropriate dated line on the front and send it back with your child tomorrow morning. I will train your child to remove the contents, put items in the correct places and return the empty envelope to our special Boomerang box. Individual Picture Day - Friday, October 2nd: Watch for more information and a payment envelope in the Boomerang. Supplies/Donations/Fees: Donations of sanitizing wipes are welcome all year! As for field trip and supply fees, I will let you know at Back-to-School Night how much we need to collect. Scholarships for these fees are available; just send me a note and I’ll make sure your child is covered. Moezone News: I will send a newsletter home every other Tuesday, more or less as needed. Thank you for signing and returning the response slips so that I know you are receiving my news. Lake Forest Park Library Walking Field Trip on Tuesday, 9/22 at 10:30: We’ll walk to the Lake Forest Park Library and get a special tour of the library from Kalee Shearer, the children’s librarian. Our time with Kalee is from 11:00 to 11:30 and then we’ll walk back to school. We will be back at school by 12:00. Please fill out the permission slip in today’s Boomerang and return it this week. Let me know if you’d like to walk with us and help supervise kids! Birthday Celebrations: You are welcome to send in a treat for your child’s birthday. Plan for 26 kids. Please send a treat that is easy to serve with no cutting required. If your child’s birthday falls on a weekend or holiday, please let me know which day your child is bringing treats, if any. (Summer birthdays will be celebrated in June.) We’ll celebrate your child’s birthday with a song and a birthday card signed by the class. Volunteers & Background Checks: The Shoreline School District now requires that all parents and other adults, whether working in the classroom, on field trips or after school activities, complete a form and provide a photocopy of their driver's license. The forms are available in the office. I will have sign-up opportunities with details of my volunteer needs available at Back-to-School Night. Boomerang Volunteer(s) needed beginning 9/15: I need someone who can come each Tuesday afternoon and distribute all of our mail into Boomerangs for each child. The time is flexible; it takes anywhere from 20-30 minutes to do depending on the amount of mail and you can start as early as 12:45 or as late as 2:00. I need one or two parents that are highly reliable and won’t miss a day without giving me advance notice. Let me know if you’re interested! Snacks/Water: Please send a healthy snack with your child each day. The kids eat lunch at 12:05 and have the option of eating a quick, healthy snack in the morning or in the late afternoon while we are working. No sweets, please. Also, sending a water bottle for your child is a great idea. Please ask your child to bring it home regularly for cleaning. VIP of the Week: Each of my students will have a designated week to be the Very Important Person of the week and share their special belongings. The Friday before your child’s week, I’ll send a reminder letter home detailing some of the items your child may bring. I will also send home a poster board that your child can use to mount photos, etc. Thank you so much for your support. I look forward to working with you this year to provide the best possible education for your child. Please keep in contact throughout the year and let me know of any concerns or questions that you have. (I also appreciate your positive feedback!) You can reach me at julie.moe@shorelineschools.org. Thanks for your support! Have a wonderful week!
