Talent Search – This program is designed to encourage its participants to complete high school and enroll
in a post-secondary program. Students in grades 6 through 12 must attend one of fourteen selected
Milwaukee Public Schools or live within the programs geographic target area. The target area is bounded
by Capitol Drive to the north, 60th Street to the west, the Milwaukee River to the east, and Lincoln Avenue
to the south. UWM Talent Search offers educational, financial aid and career related information, academic
advising, tutoring, financial aid application assistance and information, and skill-development workshops.

Upward Bound – This academic enrichment program designed by the Department of Education helps 9th
and 10th grade students develop academic and motivational skills required to complete high school and
college. Upward Bound (UB) recruits from eight MPS target high schools. Student participation includes a
six-week summer session of classroom instruction, and an academic year component of counseling,
tutoring, educational and cultural programs. The primary focus of Upward Bound is scholastic achievement
and preparation for success in college. It is residential for selected junior and senior students who have
completed at least one full year in Upward Bound. The UB program requires continual enrollment through
graduation from high school. Applicants must be first-generation, potential college students or meet federal
low-income guidelines, and attend one of the UB target schools: Bay View, Custer, Marshall, Milwaukee
High School of the Arts, North Division, Riverside, South Division or Washington. A grade point average
of 2.0 or higher is required.

Community Learning Centers (CLCs) are safe, fun places to go before and after school,
evenings, weekends, and during the summer. CLCs offer educational, recreational, and social

This agency provides literacy education to motivated adults in three main programs: Adult Basic Education,
