PART A: “CO-OP PLACEMENT DISPLAY”
Prepare a freestanding backboard that displays, explores, focuses and reports interesting facts about
your placement. Be sure to make it visually stimulating, attractive, informative and catchy to the eye.
You should take the initiative to discuss this project with your co-op training supervisor. You also need
to check on issues of confidentiality and security to ascertain that you are not breaking any ethical
codes or laws by using your selected material. It is advisable to show the backboard to your employer
for approval. This project will be displayed as part of co-op promotion at school and the workplace.
Note: use font size 18 pt or larger for print!
The following requirements MUST be included:
 use computer lettering, graphics and borders to enhance the appearance--be neat and creative!
 Headings/Titles: name of workplace; logo; your name--clearly displayed on the front
 Company description: be brief, include history; departments; job titles; locations
 Pictures: you on-the-job, building, people involved, area or areas you work in
 Job description: clearly list and explain what you did at your placement; include what you
learned (i.e software programs, equipment etc.)
 Education and career awareness: academic requirements for the job; training; advancement, etc.
 Brief paragraph: benefits you received by taking the co-op program OR your overall
opinion of this positive co-op experience OR what you enjoyed the most about your
experience this semester
 Skill Development: Choose two skills in each category and describe how you developed this skill
at your co-op placement: (note: present your 6 skills in a table format for presentation)


PART B: “PRESENTATION TO SUBJECT LINK CLASS”
DUE DATE: ON OR BEFORE THURSDAY JANUARY 16
This assignment involves you making a short 10 minute presentation to a grade 10 or 11 class which
is linked to your co-operative education placement.
The presentation will give you an opportunity to outline what you have learned from this program and
will show to the other students the relationship of the in-school course to the job experience. You will
be evaluated by the subject/link teacher, based on the criteria outlined on the verification sheet.
Make arrangements with the LINK teacher at least a week in advance. Record this information on
the Presentation sheet. Give the evaluation form to the subject teacher in order to VERIFY and
EVALUATE you on your presentation.
Suggested presentation ideas:
Take your backboard with you to the presentation.
Samples or tools from your work placement (with permission from employer)
 Handouts (brochures, pamphlets, gifts)
 Topics to speak about:
1. Why you are doing this presentation.
2. How did you hear about coop?
3. Requirements to get into coop…select it on option sheet, fill in application form, talk to co-op teacher
or guidance counselor
4. How do you find your placement?
5. Describe the co-op program…..credits, 3 hours per day, no exam, assignments that are work
related, paid/not paid, linked to a subject class
6. Describe your placement…owner/supervisor, # of employees, duties, schedule/routines, tools,
workload, schedule, what you learned
7. Benefits of taking coop…..experience, hands on training, career planning, resume, contacts, friends,
references, part-time or summer job



PART C: “EMPLOYER INTERVIEW”
DUE DATE: ON OR BEFORE THURSDAY JANUARY 16
Instructions: Interview your supervisor OR someone in a field of work in which you are
interested.
INDICATE AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR INTERVIEW WHO YOU INTERVIEWED AND
WHERE THEY WORK AND WHAT THEY DO.
This report must be typed; double spaced; use of side/sub headings and paragraphs would
be appropriate. Grammar/spelling will be marked.
1. Create 8 questions (minimum requirement) you can ask your interviewee about their
career experience. Type each question and your interviewee’s response. Include their
job title, the name of the company and phone number (or simply include a business card).
The questions you create must include a response longer than a yes or no!
Some sample questions you can include are:

Background Information on their educational requirements, training, initial interests, previous jobs

Job Conditions and Preparation: pleased with working conditions (e.g. indoors/out, office/lab,
flexibility, travel, hours of work, use of technology, opportunity for advancement in this field; what
are some of the challenges that you have faced in this career

Job Satisfaction: What do you like the most and least about your work? If you could change some
of the things you did to reach your present position, what would you change? In what way is your
job security tied to the economy? What unique job options are available in your career field that
would help employees balance career and personal life? For instance, job sharing, flexible hours,
working from home, daycare facilities and others. How has this career affected your lifestyle? How
is the pay? Would you do it all over again?
2. Ask the interviewer what advice they would offer to you (me the co-op student) as you
plan for your future career?

FINAL INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
The following interview questions are typical of ones frequently asked in an interview in
addition to those you completed in Assignment #1 during your preplacement in September.
Assume you are being interviewed for a position. Type out answers to each question as you
would answer them in an actual interview. (Full sentence format required, double space,
typed) This section is an extension of Assignment #1, Part C.
8. Describe your involvement at your co-op placement. (i.e. include your job duties and
core tasks, self-assess your workplace performance, type of business, job title, best
part of your work experience, etc.)
9. Explain the skills or knowledge you have gained from your experience. (here you can
show evidence of: an initiative situation; teamwork; independent work; responsibility;
organizational skills, interpersonal skills, personal growth, how participation in the coop program has benefited you the most, etc.) Highlight what you have learned.
10. Now explain how these skills will be transferred or applied to future educational
situations or future employment. (i.e. future plans/goals, where do you see yourself
five years from now)
EXIT RESUME
Develop an up-to-date resume that includes the skills, knowledge, and experiences gained
through your co-op experience. Include your co-op employer as a reference on your resume
(with permission—if permission was not granted, please inform your co-op teacher). Refer
back to your course binder for resume notes and samples.
THANK YOU LETTER
Write a letter of thanks to your employer and co-workers. After you type it (proper letter
format) and hand it in as part of this assignment, re-write it on a card or nice writing paper
and send it to your employer. Refer back to your course binder for a sample business
letter.
EMPLOYER’S LETTER
Submit a letter of employment (record of co-op experience) or a letter of reference from your
co-operative education employer. Remember to ask your employer in advance for this letter.
