Dear Parent/Carer
Now your son/daughter is in P7, the transition to S1 in Stewarton Academy moves ever
closer. Within the Stewarton Learning Community we have instituted a very well-evaluated
transition programme for all our P7 pupils.
The first part of this process is cross-sector secondments when in October, P7 Staff visited
Stewarton Academy to meet with staff and visit a number of junior classes. Important
curricular and pastoral meetings took place which help make for a more seamless transition.
This process is continued when Academy staff visit the primary schools in April/May.
Each year we hold a Curriculum for Excellence P7 Transition Day in February in Lainshaw
Primary School for all P7 pupils in the Learning Community. As well as supporting the
curriculum, this is the first time the future S1 cohort meet as a group and every
encouragement is given to make new friends and break down barriers.
In their evaluations of this day pupils always identify how much they enjoy it and also how
much less anxious they feel having met their future year group. This year the P7 Curriculum
for Excellence Day takes place on Thursday 7 February 2013. Further details will be
supplied nearer the event.
Easter School takes place in Stewarton Academy during the first week of the Easter holiday
when pupils get a chance to socialise with their future peers in a safe and fun environment,
while at the same time learning more about the geography of Stewarton Academy. This year
it will take place on Tuesday 2 April 2013 from 9.30 am - 12.30 pm. The evaluations of the
Easter School are always 100% positive and we very much hope your holiday schedule
allows your son/daughter to attend. Again more details will be supplied nearer the event.
From Easter till June Miss Y Sherry DHT (S1/S2) and Principal Teachers of Pupil Support
from Stewarton Academy will visit all P7 pupils. We also invite P7 parents to an information
evening on Wednesday 15 May 2013.
The P7 Induction Days take place on Wednesday 5 June and Thursday 6 June 2013 when
our P7 pupils follow their S1 timetable and get to know their future classmates.
I’m sure you will agree that this is a very comprehensive package of transition supports,
many of which continue into S1 and which contribute greatly to the swift and the very
successful way our S1 pupils enter into the life of Stewarton Academy.
