The aim of this workshop is to provide participants with a practical knowledge in the
basic principles of ultrasound and instrumentation, as well as urological applications
including prostate and urinary tract imaging
Learning Objectives
 Understand the basic principles of ultrasound and instrumentation
 Be able to use instrumental controls to optimize the ultrasound image
 Understand the indications, techniques and complications of prostate ultrasound
and biopsy
 Understand the principles and techniques of prostate ultrasound for brachytherapy
 Understand the use of ultrasound in urinary tract imaging, including kidney,
bladder, scrotum, transperineal and intraoperative applications
 Be able to recognize common gynaecological pathologies encountered in pelvic
scanning
 Be aware of the role of Doppler ultrasound in the assessment of male and female
sexual dysfunction
Participants will have the opportunity to have hands-on live scanning on patients as
well as using tissue phantoms. A variety of ultrasound machines will be available. As
such there will be a limit of 20 participants
Accreditation – The workshop is accredited for 6 MOPPS points from the
Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM) and the Urological Society
of Australia and New Zealand. The workshop is accredited as a basic module by
ASUM for the Certificate in Clinician Performed Ultrasound (CCPU)- Surgery.
Registration Fees – Trainee $350 Consultant $400. Please make cheques payable to
Bladder Research Fund, Concord Hospital.
