PARENT LEADERSHIP TRAINING INSTITUTE Dear Parent: We are pleased to announce that Sanford Community’s second cohort of Parent Leadership Training Institute will begin in October 2013. This program will continue to offer in-depth leadership training to 25 to 30 parents, guardians, grandparents and others who care for and love children. We believe that parents are their children's first and most important teachers. They are also great advocates for children in society. Parents can speak out on issues and inform policymakers, the media, and other parents about the needs of our families. The Parent Leadership Training Institute offers a stimulating program, which will boost parents’ leadership skills to address issues of concern such as accessible child and health services, quality and accountability in education and other systems and neighborhood safety. Participants will learn to become a strong voice for the next generation. The Program will begin with an all day Saturday retreat and continue with Wednesday evening classes, meeting one night each week for twenty weeks, from 6-9pm. A free meal in a relaxing atmosphere is provided from 5:15-6:00pm and childcare is offered from 6-9pm. Candidates will be selected from a pool of diversified applicants. The selection committee will select parents from the Sanford Community who have an interest in developing leadership skills within a group of diverse parents. The training is offered at no cost to you; your contribution is your time and commitment. If interested please complete and return the enclosed application by September 21st, 2013 to 917 Main Street Suite 200 Sanford, Maine 04073 or email the application to shansen@sanford.org. An interview will be conducted with each applicant.
