Research interests:
Electronic and structural properties of metal surfaces and their interaction with adsorbates (atoms and
molecules of interest for catalysis and magnetism), by theoretical and computational first principles
approaches. In particular: surfaces and interfaces of magnetic metals; alkali metal adsorption (mutual
interactions and correlated diffusion); heterogeneous catalysis by transition metals; inhomogeneities at a
surface and their effect on growth and electronic properties of nanostructures.
Methods for the description of electronic spectroscopies: Auger effect, especially core-valence-valence with
angular resolution; near-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy; scanning tunneling microscopy and
spectroscopy. Transport in nanostructures.
Methodologies adopted are mostly based on Density Functional Theory, as implemented in widely used
numerical packages, with emphasis on application and interpretation (especially when in collaboration of
experimental groups), yet with interests also on theoretical and numerical development.
