INVITATION
XIXth annual symposium
of the
Dutch Thyroid Research Foundation
The Dutch Thyroid Research Foundation (formerly known as the Dutch
Thyroid Club) cordially invites you to the 19th edition of its annual
symposium, which will take place on June 12 2015 at the Trippenhuis in
Amsterdam. International and Dutch experts will highlight important recent
developments in fundamental and clinical thyroidology. In addition, a
number of young investigators have been selected for short oral
presentations.
The symposium will start with a clinical session on thyroid cancer with Dr.
Kate Newbold (London) as an international expert. She will discuss the
use of tyrosine kinase inhibitors in thyroid cancer. This session is followed
by a basic session focussing on local thyroid hormone metabolism in
muscle. Dr. Monica Dentice (Naples) will present her recent findings on
the role of deiodinating enzymes in muscle regeneration. The next basic
session is about the consequences of mutations in the α-isoform of the
thyroid hormone receptor (TRα) with Prof. Jens Mittag (Lubeck) as a
leading expert. He will present the effects of a dominant negative mutation
on metabolism in a mouse model.
The focus will then shift to clinical thyroidology with Prof. Laszlo Hegedus
addressing the association of hypo- and hyperthyroidism with morbidity,
mortality, early retirement and income.
We look forward to an exciting meeting and hope to see you in Amsterdam!
