A glance at MSF’s history 1971: MSF founded by a group of French doctors and journalists in wake of the Nigerian civil war (Biafra) 1972: MSF works in it’s first natural disaster: Nicaraguan earthquake 1975: MSF works in it’s first refugee crisis: Cambodians fleeing Khmer Rouge 1976: MSF’s first major presence in a war zone: Lebanon 1985: MSF “speaks out” against the Ethiopian government policy of forced displacement of civilians , which contributed to the famine 1994: MSF provides medical aid throughout Rwandan genocide 1999: MSF awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2001: MSF starts providing antiretroviral AIDS treatment in seven countries 2009: MSF vaccinates over 7 million against meningitis in West Africa: MSF’s largest ever vaccination campaign Who are MSF? In 2010 91% of our income came from private sources 9% came from institutional and public funds MSF Expenditure MSF UK The London based office is one of MSF’s 19 principal offices around the world.
