COMMISSIONING TESTS:
The DICS 6101 is always configured according to the specified (customer) requirement. The maximum
capacity is 96 ports, but the modular design makes a configuration divided in 8 port expansion modules.
In addition the system has possibility of various facilities and alternative operation.
All available configuration details are listed in the Configuration specification sheets, (98609-023-CO
Attachment 1 (Configuration).xls). These sheets must be filled out according to every specific installation.

Eng.:
The Digital Integrated Communication System DICS 6100 is designed to meet the requirements for
internal communications and shore connections on board ships.
The system is based on the CENTRAL EXCHANGE UNIT, type DICS 6100. This unit can operate
with many different INTERCOM stations or TELEPHONES connected. It is configured in three
different combinations to create the MAINFRAMES; DICS 6101, 6102 and 6103. The DICS 6101
has a maximum capacity of 96 ports (lines), the DICS 6102 has 192 ports and 6103, 288 ports.
The MAINFRAMES; DICS 6101/2//3 are normally located on the ships bridge, or the electronic
equipment room.
The INTERCOM stations, may be located in locations requiring full communication facility on the
ship, like the engine room, engine control room, mooring stations, generator rooms etc.
The DICS 6100 is tested and approved according to IEC 60945.
The TELEPHONES are located throughout the ship; the crew cabins, different offices, etc.
Phontech can deliver several types of intercom stations and additional equipment for the different
purposes.

Systemet er basert på SENTRAL ENHET, type DICS 6100 som kan betjene flere forskjellige typer
INTERCOMSTASJONER eller TELEFONER. Det kan konfigureres i 3 forskjellige
utstyralternativer HOVEDENHETENE (MAINFRAME); DICS 6101, 6102 og 6103. DICS 6101 har
en maksimumskapasitet på 96 porter (linjer), DICS 6102 har 192 porter og DICS 6103, 288 porter.
MAINFRAME’ene DICS 6101/2/3 blir i de aller fleste tilfeller plassert på skipets bro, eller i
el. utstyrsrommet.
INTERCOM- stasjonene kan plasseres på viktige steder hvor alle fasiliteter kreves, som i
maskinrommet, maskin kontrollrom, fortøyningsstasjoner, generator rom osv.
DICS 6100 er testet og godkjent i hht. IEC 60945.
TELEFONENE plasseres rundt om på skipet, som i mannskaps- lugarer, kontorer osv.
I støyfylte områder, kan det benyttes tilpassede hodesett.

- The CENTRAL EXCHANGE DICS 6100 is a 19” 3HE board frame, and contains different circuit
boards, controller board, digital and / or analogue line boards, and trunk boards. The configuration
is project dependant, as the number of digital / analogue lines. The configuration is also dependant
on the number of trunk lines and interfaces required.
- The ACCOMMODATION intercom station DICS 6110 is for use in cabins, offices, etc. This is a
digital station, handset, loudspeaker, internal microphone, memory functions etc. Privacy feature,
desk or wall mounted.
- The WEATHERPROOF unit with handset DICS 6111 is for use outside or in rougher
environment inside. Equipped with rugged handset. Output for external loudspeaker, relay for
external signal organ control. (Flashing light, siren, etc.)
- The WEATHER- PROOF unit DICS 6112 is for use outside or in rougher environment inside.
Output for external loudspeaker, relay for external signal organ control. (Flashing light, siren, etc.)
- The FLUSH- MOUNTING unit DICS 6113 is for mounting in bridge console, engine control
room console, etc. Handset, internal loudspeaker, internal microphone. Output for external
loudspeaker, relay for external signal organ control. (Flashing light, siren, etc.)
- The WEATHER- PROOF PORTABLE unit DICS 6114 is equipped with a 10 meters cable and
plug for connection to plug-boxes. Suitable for mooring stations, etc. Internal loudspeaker,
microphone, etc.
- The FLUSH- MOUNTING unit (backlighting) DICS 6123 is the equal to the DICS 6113, with
backlighting as an extra facility. Dimmer function for the backlight.
- The WEATHERPROOF BULKHEAD unit DICS 6124 is a loudspeaking unit for use in rough
inside spaces like galleys, change rooms etc.

In the DICS 6100 system, functionality and configuration must be set up and adjusted according to
the physical configuration, connections and the customers requirements. Due to the flexibility in
the system, this must be set individually in each system and possibly be adjusted on site.
To achieve this it requires the DICS CONFIGURATION SOFTWARE, a PC equipped with a
serial port (COM1) and a 0-modem cable.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR PERSONNEL REPROGRAMMING THE DICS TO
ATTEND A CONFIGURATION SOFTWARE TRAINING COURSE ARRANGED BY
PHONTECH.

The installation should be planned in details before commencing. The cables should be listed in a
cable plan, with number of pairs etc.
The location of each unit in the communication system should be planned to obtain maximum
performance and user availability.
The locations of the intercom stations and telephones with regards to the operators must be taken
especially into consideration.
Use the document 98609-XXX-IN for help the planning of the installation.
Phontech strongly recommend the use of junction box(es) for the external cable distribution.

SCREEN CONNECTION / SKJERM TERMINERING

In order to obtain maximum performance after installation, it is necessary to terminate the cables
and ground the screens in a good manner. The cables are to de-isolated by removing approximately
500 mm of the outer insulation. Then the screen braid is cut off approximately 30 mm longer than
the outer isolation. The conductors are to be de-isolated and ferruled before they are inserted into
the terminals. The outer screen is clamped to the cable fixing rails inside the cabinet. Cable ties of a
conductive type (metal) are recommended for best result.
See figure 16 for more details.

The DICS 6100 system can basically operate in two different configurations; as a Digital Intercom system or as
an analogue PABX. In the PABX / POT mode, functionality is limited and even though most system related functionality is still available, the operation is different.

other members of the call group.
When the call is replied to, and the ringing stops, all other group members will operate as normal.

Preoccupied members of the group will not be paged, and the paging party will not be notified of any missing

It is not possible to define POT members into a paging group, as these are not equipped with the paging facility.
In order to be certain all members (except POT members) are paged regardless of any situation the pager must
perform an EMERGENCY ALL CALL as described below.

There are 2 levels of speed dialling available.
The one-button speed dial facility (M1, M2 and M3) is controlled in the Service classes of the configuration
(CONFIG). Each service class must be programmed with the content valid for its members. Each “service class”
can contain different numbers. The one-button speed dial is stored in the system and will automatically be transferred to any new IU connected to the same line.
The two-button speed dial is locally programmable per. IU, and uses the buttons 0-9 as memory locations. This
programming is stored in each IU and will have to be reprogrammed to any replacement IU.
POT speed dial button is a local facility (not system controlled), dependant of the specific telephone instrument.

Handset mode: The handset microphone and earphone are enabled, any loudspeaker is muted, the unit
chassis microphone is muted.
Loudhearing: The handset microphone and earphone are enabled, the internal/external loudspeaker is
enabled, the unit microphone is muted
Loudspeaking: The handset is on-hook (or absent) and thus disabled, the internal/external loudspeaker is
enabled, the unit microphone is active. In this mode the unit is operating fully handsfree.
How to achieve the different modes:
Handset mode: Off-hook the handset while idle.
Loudhearing: Push the ACT key while the handset is off-hook.
Loudspeaking: On-hook the handset while in loudhearing mode. Or push the ACT key while idle.
