“For you created my inmost being; you knit me
together in my mother’s womb. I praise you
because I am fearfully and wonderfully
made; your works are wonderful, I know
that full well. My frame was not hidden from
you when I was made in the secret place.”
“…each man has his own gift from God…”
1 Corinthians 7:7
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above...”
James 1:17a
“…It is He who has made us and not we ourselves.”
Psalm 100:3

We must permit the HOLY SPIRIT to temper our extremes,
and be guided daily by THE WORD OF GOD.

TEAM Discipleship
& Leader Development
Schoolroom Scenario
Acts 1:8
“… but you shall receive power when the
Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall
be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and Samaria, and even to the
remotest part of the earth.”
We are all called to be evangelists, as
royal priests, but we also have been
given special gifting, abilities, passions,
personalities and experiences that
make us the perfect individual to
undertake a unique ministry in the
body of Christ…
What are spiritual gifts?
‘… extraordinary endowments that the Spirit
confers on chosen people.’
Leon Morris
‘… specific visible ways in which the Spirit
manifests himself in the believing community,
granting them ‘gracious bestowments’ to meet
their various needs and thus to build them up…’
Gordon Fee
1 Corinthians 12:11
“All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he
gives them to each one, just as he determines.”
Who Have Spiritual Gifts?
1 Peter 4:10
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to
serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its
various forms.”
All believers!
Do we ACHIEVE or RECEIVE
our spiritual gifts?
1 Corinthians 12:18
“But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body,
every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.”
Receive God’s choice
Should I expect to function like
other members in the Body?
Romans 12:6a
“We have different gifts, according to the grace given us...”
No!
Why use our spiritual gifts?
1 Peter 4:10-11
“Each one should use whatever gifts he has
received to serve others, faithfully administering
God’s grace in its various forms… so that in all
things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.”
God is glorified!
“Charis”
 Means “grace” in Greek
 Also is the root for gift (charizmo) and joy (chara)
Isn’t is appropriate that using our
grace gifts will result in joy!!

Discover Your Destiny
Spiritual Gifts Profile – pg 3.
 128 statements.
 Rate from 1 to 5.
 1 is almost never true.
 5 is almost always true.
 Resist the urge to put a 3
on everything.
William Booth
‘You must know you have a gift before you can use
it. Every man is a genius in some direction. There is
some specialty in which he excels beyond those
about Him …Put yourself into circumstances in
which you are likely to discover for yourself, and in
which others can help you to find out, what gifts
you do possess. I am afraid … thousands …live and
die with abilities, which, had they been discovered,
might have been the means of saving multitudes.’
“This isn’t working for me!”
You may be serving in a ministry position
that doesn’t match your giftedness.
This may indicate MATURITY AND
A WILLINGNESS TO DO WHATEVER
GOD HAS CALLED YOU TO DO.
OR it may explain WHY YOU GET
FRUSTRATED IN YOUR MINISTRY.
The greatest ability God wants is AVAILABILITY.
God doesn’t always
CALL THE QUALIFIED,
but He always
QUALIFIES THE CALLED.
Hindrances to Spiritual Gifting
 Self-esteem problems
 Pursuing someone’s else’s agenda for us
 Avoiding distinctiveness/to be known
 Trying to be just like someone else
 Having to function in ungifted areas
 Unwillingness to accept feedback
Blocks to the Flow of
Spiritual Gifts
 Bondage – fear, damaged emotions from childhood, low
self-esteem
 Unresolved anger
 Conflict with family members
 Conflict with brothers & sisters in Christ
 Irresponsibility
 Sin
What robs you of your
joy in serving Christ
and His Body?
What stands in the
way of you reaching
out to Him to be
equipped for His
service?
How to Handle Conflicts
 Natural Responses to Conflict:
 “D’s” – want to Attack
 “I’s” – want to Expose
 “S’s” – want to Support or Submit
 “C’s” – want to Criticize
 Recommended Wise Responses:
 “D’s” – restore with love
 “I’s” – make others look good
 “S’s” – care enough to confront
 “C’s” – examine own self first

Session III
Blends
 What personality type would you predict a person
with the gift of teaching has?
C
 What about the gift of serving?
S
Unique Blends
 What personality would we normally expect of a
prophet?
 Consider a person with the gift of Mercy having a
D personality.
 Evangelists are not always I’s either. There are some
C evangelists who can state a case with
indisputable facts that prompt a person to accept
the Lord.
Group Work
 Turn to pages 17-22 in your workbook.
 Locate the Personality / Spiritual Gift description(s)
which apply to you. Read them to yourself.
 Get into groups of 3 - 4.
 Each person should share briefly the insights you’ve
received today.
HEART PASSIONS
God sometimes gives us a burden that has nothing to do
with our personality or giftedness.
If you had ten million dollars, how would you spend it?
What people/situations have you met that gave you a
PASSION for something?
ABILITIES/TALENTS
We also each have specific natural talents,
abilities, hobbies and skills.
What “talents” has God blessed you with that can
be a vehicle for ministry in your life?
EXPERIENCES
God allows each of us to go through difficult
times that cause us to rely on Him. He often
brings people into our lives later who we
then can EMPATHIZE with and minister to,
in His name.
Can you think of a situation that God has
allowed in your life and then clearly used so
that you could minister to someone?
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of
the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have
received from God? You are not your own; you
were bought at a price. Therefore honor God
with your body.”
Romans 12:1-2
“Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view of
God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living
sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is
your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform
any longer to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Then you will be able to test and approve what
God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect
will..”
A Warning…
Are you open to GOD developing and
using your gifts as He sees fit?
1 Peter 5:1-7
“…be submissive…, eager to serve…
All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one
another… Humble yourselves… that He may lift you up in
due time.”
GET INTO ‘SHAPE’!
 Turn to page 33 in your
booklet – consider the areas
of ministry that interest you
and suit your “SHAPE”
 Complete Handout #10 so
that your CO can meet your
needs and “plug you in”!
 Food for personal thought
and prayer – page 35…
Romans 12:1-3
“…offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy
and pleasing…
…be transformed by the renewing of your
mind… then you will be able to test and
approve what God’s will is…
Do not think of yourself more highly than
you ought, but rather think of yourself
with sober judgment, in accordance with
the measure of faith God has given you.”
