TENSO Days is het internationale festival voor hedendaagse koormuziek, i.s.m. het Europese
netwerk TENSO. Professionele kamerkoren, dirigenten, amateurs, muziekliefhebbers en concertorganisatoren ontmoeten elkaar tijdens workshops en muzikale salons in de binnenstad.

doen de heren en dames een greep uit dit repertoire. Spannend hoogtepunt van de avond is
de wereldcreatie van Eugene Birman, de winnaar van de TENSO Young Composers Award 2013.

kunnen aanschuiven. Musicoloog en componist Leo Samama gaat op zoek naar een geschikt kader en uitgebalanceerd programma
voor een hedendaags koorconcert. Joris Blanckaert heeft het over koormuziek in de 21ste

De Denen zijn terecht fier op hun nationaal VokalEnsemblet. Olof Boman selecteerde enkele
werken van Deense (en Zweedse) hedendaagse componisten die een internationale doorbraak beleefden of verdienen. Zelfs de Faroer archipel maakt zijn opwachting, dankzij de
donkere tonen van Sunleif Rasmussen. En als soliste mag onze eigenste Liesje Vanmassenhove
opdraven. De Denen zijn terecht fier op hun nationaal VokalEnsemblet. Zo fier dat ze er geen
probleem mee hadden om een Zweed tot chef-dirigent te maken.

Drie componisten, drie generaties, drie benaderingen van het lied. Eerst was er Monteverdi
en zijn hartverscheurende Lamento d’Arianne. Veel later zette de Duitser Henze enkele gedichten over de gruwelen van de Argentijnse dictatuur op muziek. En nu grijpt de Nederlander
Rob Zuidam naar verzen van Berlijnse dichters als Achim von Arnim en Mascha Kaléko voor zijn
Berliner Chorbuch, een opdrachtwerk van het Rias Kammerchor. Hiermee vult Rob Zuidam een
benijdenswaardig rijtje componisten aan wiens werk door het Rias Kammerchor in première
werd gebracht: Schönberg, Boulez en Pärt gingen hem voor.

once again promising to produce a creative chain reaction. Professional chamber choirs, conductors, amateurs, music lovers and concert organizers meet during concerts, workshops and

This international workshop gives young composers a ‘test choir’ of world fame: the DR VokalEnsemblet. With part of the score displayed on the music stand, they discover how dramatic
effects, colors or vocal range influence the composition. Come and listen to their quest.

With no less than ten world premieres each year, this travelling music laboratory is one of the
most important cultural ambassadors of their country and by extension of the whole Baltic region.
In the cathedral, these ladies and gents will be making a selection from the national repertoire.
The highlight of this evening is the world creation by Eugene Birman, who in 2013 won the TENSO
Young Composers Award.

The Danes are proud of their national VokalEnsemblet, and rightly so. They are so proud that
they had no problem with appointing a Swede chief conductor. Olof Borman selected several works by Danish and Swedish contemporary composers who experienced or deserve
an international breakthrough. Even the Faroer archipel is present, thanks to the dark tones of
Sunleif Rasmussen.

Three composers, three generations, three approaches of the song. First there was Monteverdi
and his heart-breaking Lamento d’Arianne. Much later, the German Henze put several poems
about the horrors of the Argentinian dictatorship to music. And now, the Dutchman Rob Zuidam
reaches for verses by Achim von Arnim and Mascha Kaléko for his Berliner Chorbuch. Hereby he
completes a list of enviable composers who’s work was premiered by the Rias Kammerchor:
Schönberg, Boulez and Pärt.
