1. Accessing the geolocation service
Geolocation is a web service that you access using a REST interface. Results are
returned to you in JSON.

Authorization
The service is open to everyone and free to use. Authorization does not apply.
Media types
The service supports the following media types:
 standard requests: application/json or text/json
 cross-domain requests: text/javascript or application/javascript or
application/json-p
To perform a cross-domain request one must define the parameter ‘callback’ in the
request URI. The response is then wrapped inside a JavaScript function.

2. Functional overview
Geolocation services
Geolocation is comprised of serveral search services that are available to client
applications via the same service interface. On a high level, Geolocation provides
functions for auto-completion, geocoding, reverse geocoding, parcel search and poi
search.
Suggestion
Suggestion allows client applications to provide auto-completion
functionality for a free form single search line. Input can be either
partial address information, partial parcel identification or partial
poi name.
Geocoding
Geocoding is the process of matching an address to its correct
location on a map. Client applications can pass free form single
search line with partial address information. Result is either a
single record exactly matching the input or a set of records
ranked by relevance when the input is ambiguous.
Reverse
geocoding
The reverse geocoding interface allows client applications to
retrieve the closest address based on a given coordinate.
Parcel search
Parcel search allows client applications to retrieve the location of
a parcel [will be unavailable in future versions].
Poi search
Poi search allows client applications to retrieve the location of a
Point of Interest.
High level use cases
Geolocation service provides solutions for the following high level use cases.
 Find addresses starting with ‘Veld’.
 Find addresses containing ‘Veld’.
 Find parcel identifiers starting with ‘11001’.
 Find poi names starting with ‘Mol’.
 Find geo-location based on (partial) address information (e.g. ‘Veldstraat 12,
Gent’).
 Find geo-location based on (partial) address information including zip code
(e.g. ‘Veldstraat 12, 9000’).
 Find geo-location based on (partial) address information including subcommunity area name (e.g. ‘Heerweg-Zuid 50, Zwijnaarde’).
 Find geo-location based on (partial) parcel identifier (e.g.
‘11001B0105/00T000’).
 Find geo-location based on (partial) poi name (e.g. ‘De Pagadder’).
 Find address closest to a certain Lambert-72 coordinate (e.g. ‘106315.821,
188056.158’).
 Find address closest to a certain WGS-84 coordinate (e.g. 51.006761,
3.717241’).

Suggestion

[Optional] A free form search string. May contain community names, subcommunity area names, zip codes, street names, house numbers, poi
names, parcel identifiers or parts thereof. A minimum of two characters is
required.
capakey [Optional] A parcel identifier in capakey notation. At least the first five
characters are required.
poi
[Optional] The name of a Point of Interest, or a part thereof.
c
[Optional] The maximum number of items you want to retrieve in the result.
You may not ask more than 25 items. If omitted defaults to 5.
Output
SuggestionResult
Contains a list of items resembling the input string. The list may
contain between zero and n items, where n is the maximum
number of items indicated in your request or otherwise the
default of 5.
The list may contain the following item types:
 Community name (e.g. ‘Gent’);
 Street name (e.g. ‘Veldstraat, Gent’);
 Formatted address line:
o in Dutch:

BoundingBox
Contains the coordinates of the lower left and the upper right
corners of the smallest rectangle containing the locations
geometry. The coordinates are provided both in WGS84 and
