Het congres IOBC Ghent 2014 wordt georganiseerd door het Proefcentrum voor Sierteelt (PCS) met
ondersteuning van de provincie Oost-Vlaanderen, de Vlaamse overheid, Biobest, Koppert, Certis, Belchim,
Syngenta Bioline en Viridaxis.

Over IOBC Ghent 2014
De Vlaamse glastuinbouw streeft naar meer duurzame gewasbescherming. Van 14 tot 18 september
2014 komen de wereldwijde experten in biologische en geïntegreerde gewasbescherming naar Gent.
Het Proefcentrum voor Sierteelt (PCS) organiseert er een congres over het gebruik van duurzame
bestrijdingstechnieken in serreteelten: groenten, kleinfruit en sierteelt. Dit congres kadert in de
IOBC-WPRS werkgroep ‘Geïntegreerde bestrijding van beschermde teelten in een gematigd klimaat’.
135 onderzoekers uit de hele wereld zullen aanwezig zijn en hun onderzoek rond geïntegreerde en
biologische bestrijding voorstellen.
Deelnemers uit 22 landen, van Nieuw-Zeeland tot Canada zullen de nieuwste onderzoeksresultaten
uitwisselen rond ‘uitdagingen om biologische bestrijders toe te passen in de praktijk’, ‘duurzame
toepassing van bestrijders’, ‘geïnduceerde resistentie’, ‘opkomende nieuwe ziekten en plagen’ …
Naast wetenschappelijke sessies, zullen ook diverse tuinbouwbedrijven (groenteteelt, sierteelt en
fruitteelt) bezocht worden. Op dinsdag 16 september 2014 wordt een speciale namiddagsessie voor
telers georganiseerd op het PCS, waarbij telers de kans krijgen om ervaringen en vragen uit te
wisselen met internationale experten.
Dit congres kan georganiseerd worden dankzij ondersteuning van de provincie Oost-Vlaanderen en
de Vlaamse overheid maar ook dankzij verschillende bedrijven gespecialiseerd in biobestrijders:
Biobest, Koppert, Certis, Belchim, Syngenta Bioline en Viridaxis.

Op dinsdag 16 september 2014 om 14u vindt de studiedag ‘IPM in beschermde teelten over de
grenzen heen’ plaats op het Proefcentrum voor Sierteelt te Destelbergen. Zowel de pers als de
tuinbouwsector is harte welkom!
Op deze studiedag krijg je de kans om te zien hoe geïntegreerde gewasbescherming wereldwijd
toegepast wordt. Je kan er praktische ideeën uitwisselen met IPM-experten uit andere landen.
Simultaanvertaling wordt voorzien, waardoor taal geen barrière hoeft te zijn. Na afloop kunnen
deelnemers aanschuiven voor een gezellige barbecue.

What is IOBC?
International organisation for Biological Control (IOBC)
IOBC was established in 1955 to promote environmentally safe methods of pest and disease control in
plant protection.
Members of WPRS are individual scientists, governmental, scientific or commercial organisations from
24 countries of Europe, Mediterranean region and the Middle East.
IOBC-WPRS encourages collaboration in promoting feasible and environmentally safe methods of
pest and pathogen control.
IOBC-WPRS fosters research and practical application, organises meetings, symposia, offers training
and information, especially of biological methods of control, but also of all methods, including
chemicals, within an integrated pest management context. Major activities include development and
standardisation of testing methods for effects of pesticides on beneficial species, pest and disease
damage assessment, modelling in relation to pest and disease management, and the practical
implementation of biological and integrated controls for pests and diseases of particular crops.
IOBC is affiliated with the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU) as the Section of Biological
Control of the International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS).
Mission
The International organisation for Biological Control (IOBC) was established in 1955 as a global
organisation affiliated to the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU). IOBC promotes
environmentally safe methods of pest and disease control. It is a voluntary organisation of biologicalcontrol workers.
Membership in IOBC gives individuals and organisations the opportunity to participate in biological
control activities beyond their specific jobs and workplaces, to step outside their bureaucracies, and to
contribute to the promotion of biological control worldwide. See the statutes and by-laws.
The Mission in detail is:

IOBC promotes the development of biological control and its application in integrated pest
management programs, and international cooperation to these ends.
•
IOBC collects, evaluates and disseminates information about biological control, and promotes
national and international action concerning research, training of personnel, coordination of largescale application and public awareness of the economic and social importance of biological control.
•
IOBC arranges conferences, meetings and symposia, and takes other action to implement the
general objectives of the organisation.
•
As an independent professional organisation, IOBC can be an effective advocate for biological
control, and can influence policy makers and Governments.
•
IOBC assists in the communication among biological-control workers, through dissemination of the
IOBC Newsletter.
•
IOBC publishes a journal for basic and applied research on biological control of invertebrate,
vertebrate and weed pests, and plant diseases. This journal is BioControl, published by Springer.
These aims require a regionalized organisation of IOBC Global to fulfill the various tasks.
