Coffee came into Colombia through our neighbor country, Venezuela. The Jesuit Missionaries introduced the coffee bean in the Region of the Meta and Orinoco Rivers, according to Father José Gumilla in his book “El Orinoco Ilustrado” (The Orinoco Illustraded). Widely spread by the priests, coffee arrives at a monastery in the city of Popayan and then to Tierradentro, in the year 1834. The pioneer beans belong to Coffea Arabica Var. Typica. (60% of our present crops).
