Reduction in Calories Burned at Work is Related to Increase in Obesity since the 1960s A national study examined the relationship between the prevalence of obesity and reductions in calories burned during work from 1960 to 2006. The study predicted that, given a baseline weight of 76.9 kg in 1960-62 for men, a drop of 142 calories would result in an increase in average weight to 89.7 kg, which closely matched the actual average weight (according to NHANES data) of 91.8 kg in 2003-06.
