The Migratory Bird Conservation
Act of 1929
By Holt McNair
What is it?
• This Conservation Act
provided sanctuaries where
Migratory Birds, who had
already been placed under
federal protection in 1913,
could live and flourish.
The Creator
The Main Sponsor of the Migratory Bird
Conservation Act of 1929 was Republican
Senator Peter Norbeck form South Dakota.
Not only did this act provide sanctuaries for
migratory birds, but it also created the
Migratory Bird Conservation Commission.
What did it do?
• This Conservation Commission was in charge
of deciding what areas of land and water were
good places to set up sanctuaries. The people
on this commission would decide whether or
not the land was worth buying.
More!
• Not only did this act establish a commission,
it also created the Migratory Bird
Conservation Fund.
• This fund provided resources for maintenance
of the acquired lands, the preservation of the
habitats, and paid any other related expenses.
