The organizing principle of this project is the promotion of
sustainable agriculture through waste recycling for compost
Saramacca - Suriname
Description of the initiative
1) Introduction of recycling of
residential and commercial
food waste
Thirty-five percent of solid waste in
Greater Paramaribo consists of fresh
fruits and vegetables
 Potential amount of waste that can
be composted per day is 11 ton, which
can generate 2,5 ton compost per day
Partnership between government and
waste collectors to promote recycling
for compost

recycling and suistainable soil
and crop management with
compost
 Public education about the
benefits of recycling food waste
for compost
 Set up demonstration sites to
showcase the benefits of compost
for agriculture
