Some of the databases with content in languages other than English are: 7 + Locating E-Resources: EUI Library Catalogue Library Limit search to Electronic Resources or Electronic Journals The Catalogue includes entries for all the Library’s print materials, as well as all databases and electronic collections. The Catalogue includes entries and links to our e-journals and e-books. Detailed descriptions and access instructions are also included. 22 Locating E-Resources: Research Guides Library E-Resources information available in the EUI Library Research Guides: • Lists of discipline-specific E-Journals and Databases • How-to Guides for individual databases • Pointers to highly-specialized Internet resources Research Data Services • Information on licensed and open data sources • Library support for use of research data + Links to the Library’s Research Guides are available on the Library homepage as well as in the right navigation menu. 23 E-Resources Tools Library 24 E-Resources Tools: Find Articles (and more) Library Bibliographical Databases include items not listed in the Catalogue, such as: Journal articles, Book reviews, Dissertations, Conference proceedings. Bibliographical Databases usually do not have full-text. Many have enabled EUI LINKS, the Linking to Full-Text service 25 E-Resources Tools: Linking to Full-text with EUI LINKS Library I found an article citation in a database … now how do I link to the full-text? Bibliographic database Full-text article The button in bibliographic (article) databases will offer links to full-text, when available from the EUI Library. Article citation or “Full-text @ EUI Library” 26 E-Resources Tools: Linking to Full-text: Google Scholar example Library “Full-text@EUI Library” link goes to the EUI LINKS service To see EUI LINKS in Google Scholar from off-campus you must add “European University Institute” to Library Links in the Google Scholar Settings. Full-text@EUI Library link appears automatically in Google Scholar from on-campus computers. 27 Accessing E-Resources Library Find information about: • On-campus access • Off-campus (remote) access via proxy and VPN • Using Computers in the Library • Network connections (WiFi) 28 Accessing E-Resources: Off-Campus Access example Library Whether you are at home or traveling abroad on mission you can access eresources via the secure proxy. Your 14-digit Library Code is noted on your EUI ID Card. Enter your Surname as it is listed on your on your EUI ID Card. 29 Accessing E-Resources: Terms & Conditions of Use Library Using EUI Library E-Resources: • Use of the Library’s e-resources is governed by copyright laws, license agreements and Terms of Use. • EUI users who violate the Terms of Use may lose access rights to eresources. • Misuse by a single user could result in access being blocked for all EUI users. 30 Accessing E-Resources: Terms & Conditions of Use Library Users may not: • Share logins or passwords • Systematically download, distribute or save substantial portions of content, such as: • Continuously download tables of contents, search results, citations or output • Download entire issues or volumes of an e-journal, an entire e-book or database • Use robots or any automated program to download content • Use the licensed content from for commercial purposes • Modify or create a derivative work based on licensed content without permission In case of doubt or if you have a need for extensive content from a licensed resource, contact Library staff prior to use. 31 Accessing E-Resources: Terms of Use in Catalogue Records Library Users must abide by Terms of Use. Catalogue records provide general information on the Terms of Use. Terms of Use and restrictions are different for each database or ejournal provider. Contact Library staff if the Terms of Use or access restrictions are not clear. 32 Accessing E-Resources: Examples of E-Book Restrictions Limits & Restrictions Library Cambridge Books Online EBL Ebook Library Oxford Scholarship 100 titles 336 titles 5,743 titles PRINTING: 1 chapter or 20% of a book in 4 week period Up to 20% of a book (database tracks the number of pages printed by each user) SAVING / Copy one (1) chapter Copy up to 5% of text COPYING: per book or 5% of of book (database total collection tracks the number of pages copied by user) ACCESS: Login only required when off-campus (remote) Login required at all times, both on and off campus (remote) Up to one (1) chapter or up to 5% of text of a book Save up to one (1) chapter or up to 5% of text of a book Login only required when off-campus (remote) 33 Accessing E-Resources: Reporting Access Problems Library Submit an online Problem Report Form to notify the Library staff about: • • • Problems accessing the Library’s electronic resources, whether from on-campus or from home Downloading or printing problems with Library’s electronic resources Broken links in the Catalogue Provide enough detailed information so that the Library staff can replicate the problem, including: • • • Full citation of article you are unable to access URL of page not working Any error messages received Use the Library’s Problem Report Form, not the EUI HelpDesk, to report problems with Library resources.
