The centre of competence Alpi Biogas focusses his energies in the
following activities:
Research & Development:
The innovation and application of new technologies in plants and
processes are the objectives of R&D. The research is targeted on low
volume agricultural plants and on specific solutions for the industry.
The transfer of the know-how:
We spin webs for connecting the right partners and build bridges
between the research’s and the economy’s worlds.
Experiment and monitoring:
The pilot plants and demonstration plants permit the scientific
monitoring of the research’s projects up to their concrete realization.

The process ANAMMOX (ANaerobic AMMonium OXidation) converts the ammonium directly
in molecular nitrogen.
The reactions are:
Nitrification (partial):
Anammox:
2NH4+ + 1.5O2 => NH4+ + NO2- + H2O + 2H+
NH4+ + NO2- => N2 + 2H2O
ACIDO
The process is done by specific microorganisms – organisms «ANAMMOX»
(Planctomycetales):

autotrofic anaerobic bacteria

observed for the first time in 1995

they contribute at 70% to the nitrogen cycle in the oceans

Nitrogen drawdown by means of a chemical process of
desorption producing ammoniac in gaseous phase.
The ammoniac produced is sent to a cleaning column
(scrubber) from where it comes out in form of salt (ammonium
sulphate).
Actually this technology is not covered in the BAT (Best
available technology).
