Powered is financed by IPA Adriatic CBC Programme 2007- 2013 for more than 4 MIL euro. The aim is to
strengthen the capacity for sustainable development of the Adriatic-Ionian macro-region. The development
of wind power would bring extremely positive results for the entire area, favouring the development of a
new production sector.
The Project was conceived to carry out a scientific investigation to determine whether the anemological
and technical-administrative conditions exist in the area of the Adriatic and Ionian seas to make an
advantageous investment of off-shore wind power. The decision to concentrate on wind farms in the open
sea is strategic if the quality of the wind resource is substantial in terms of force and stability over time.
Furthermore, the sea opens the way to wind power technology on a wide scale thanks to the possibility
of installing large turbines which on land would encounter unquestioned logistic problems. Likewise great
importance is given to studies on the impact on the environment and seascape to determine the less
suitable areas for off-shore wind farm installations.
