INLEIDING
De +tafel, door Fraaiheid ®
Pure schoonheid uit één plaat hout
Fraaiheid is een nieuw Nederlands designlabel dat wordt geleid door het
architectentrio Daniel Aw, Sjoerd Schaapveld en Rikjan Scholten. Hun
eerste product, de +tafel, is het resultaat van hun ervaringen in de
Nederlandse bouw en hun streven om slimme, toegankelijke ontwerpen
te maken die onze leefomgeving verfraaien. Met de +tafel maakten zij een
designtafel voor een niet-designprijs die in drie minuten in elkaar te zetten is.

The +table, by Fraaiheid ®
Pure splendour from one sheet of wood
Fraaiheid is a new Dutch design label led by three architects: Daniel Aw,
Sjoerd Schaapveld and Rikjan Scholten. Their first item for sale is the +table,
which was developed from their working experience in Dutch construction
and their desire to make innovative products which easily appeal to a public
who wants to add a little bit of Fraaiheid (Dutch translation of beauty) to their
lives. With the +table they created a design table for a non-design price that
can be put together in three minutes.

CONCEPT
Eén tafel uit één plaat hout
Voor de +tafel verwerkten de ontwerpers van Fraaiheid één standaard
multiplex plaat in zijn geheel tot één bijzondere tafel. Sterker nog: de +tafel
wordt zonder toevoeging van enig ander materiaal of hulpmiddel in elkaar
gezet. Er hoeft niets geschroefd of gelijmd te worden. Al dat fraais komt uit
die ene plaat hout en drie minuten fysieke arbeid van de consument.
Prachtig afgewerkt, minimaal materiaalverlies
Dit alles is mogelijk doordat een geavanceerde productietechniek is gebruikt:
het zogenoemde cnc-frezen. Hierbij freest een computergestuurde machine
met een klein boortje alle onderdelen zeer nauwkeurig uit één plaat hout. Het
resultaat: een buitengewoon hoog afwerkingsniveau én minimaal
materiaalverlies.
Kruisjes
De +tafel dankt zijn naam aan de kruisjes die zichtbaar zijn in het tafelblad.
Deze zijn het gevolg van het kruislings over elkaar schuiven van de
afzonderlijke onderdelen van het onderstel. De tafelbladen worden
vervolgens als puzzelstukjes tussen de kruisjes geplaatst zodat er één stabiel
geheel ontstaat. De kruisjes maken dus de constructie zichtbaar en brengen
– als je er van dichtbij naar kijkt – de essentie van het toegepaste materiaal
naar voren.
Materiaal
De basis van de +tafel is namelijk multiplex, een veel toegepast materiaal in
de bouw. Multiplex is een industrieel geproduceerd materiaal van dunne
laagjes op elkaar gelijmd hout. Dit resulteert in sterke platen hout die in de
groothandel in enkele standaardmaten verkrijgbaar zijn. Vaak worden de
platen in de meubelindustrie gebruikt om bijvoorbeeld tafelbladen of
kastdeurtjes voor keukens te maken. Voor de +tafel werkt Fraaiheid met
hoogwaardig berkenmultiplex dat voorzien is van een harde gekleurde
HPL-toplaag (High Pressure Laminate) als extra bescherming.
Verkrijgbaar in vier formaten
De +tafel is er in vier verschillende formaten, zodat er voor ieder interieur,
gelegenheid en gebruik een passend exemplaar is. De tafels zijn in diverse
kleuren verkrijgbaar en door het slimme materiaalgebruik en de toegepaste
productiemethode ook nog eens vriendelijk geprijsd. Een designtafel voor een
niet-designprijs die in drie minuten in elkaar te zetten is!

CONCEPT
One table out of one sheet of wood
For the +table the designers of Fraaiheid transformed a single sheet of laminated plywood into a unique piece of furniture, which is sustainably produced
and at the same time doesn’t cost the world. Moreover the table can be
assembled without the requirement of any other material or tool at all. So,
all the beauty of one +table comes from a single sheet of plywood and three
minutes of old-fashioned manual labour by the consumer.
Refined finish, minimal loss of material
An advanced production technology, the so-called cnc-milling, is used to
produce the +table. With a little drill a computerized machine mills all table
parts with great precision from one sheet of wood, ensuring an accurate finish
and a minimal loss of material.

Crosses
The +table gets its name from the cross-shaped joints visible in the table top.
These are the result of the way the different parts of the base of the table are
put together, clearly showing the construction method of the table. If the joints
are looked at closely the essence of the used material emerges as the layers
of the wood become visible.
Material
The basic material of the +table is plywood, an industrially produced material
of thin layers of wood glued together. This results in strong sheets of
laminated wood which are available for wholesale purchase in a few
standard dimensions. It is often used by the furniture industry, like in table
tops and kitchen cabinets. For the +table Fraaiheid uses high quality birch
plywood with a hard top layer of coloured HPL (High Pressure Laminate) for
extra protection.
