Aqua : An Amphibious

Autonomous Robot

• Robot that swims via motion of its legs rather than using thrusters and control surface in open water or walk on the bottom of the ocean.

• Using variety of sensors to estimate its position with respect to Local visual features and provide a global frame of reference.

• Developed by McGill university in collaboration with the university at

Michigan, the university of california at berkeley and

Carnegie Mellon

University.

About the vehicle

• Aqua is based on RHex, a terrestrial six-legged robot.

• Capabilities –Diving to a depth of 30 meters,

Swimming at up to 1.0m/s and Crawling on the bottom of the sea.

• Its 65cm Long,45cm Wide and 13cm high& it has aluminum waterproof shell &displaces about

16 kg of water.

• About batteries provide more than threehours of continuous operation.
