BRIEF HISTORY
1920’s, Marine researches started in Xiamen University.
In the 1930’s, Xiamen University became the research center for China’s endeavors
in marine biology.
1946, China’s first Department of Oceanography and first Institute of Marine
Research were established at XMU.
1955, China’s first postgraduate education of marine biology commenced at
Xiamen University
1970, Xiamen University resumed the Department of Oceanography.
1996, College of Oceanography and Environmental Science was founded.
2005, State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science
(Xiamen University) was established.
2006, Department of Marine Technology and
Engineering was founded.
