COMPANY PROFILE
 The Indian railway network is one of the largest in the world under one




management. Indian railways come under the jurisdiction of Ministry of
Railways and are by the railway Board.
The Planning Commission sanctioned the Rail Wheel Factory Plant project
in 1978 at a cost of Rs.146 Crores. Trial production commenced during
1983. Late Smt. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India formally
commissioned the plant on 15 September 1984.
Rail Wheel Factory (earlier known as Wheel and Axle Plant) is situated in
Bangalore, India.
It is a state-of-the-art plant, meeting bulk of the requirement of wheels,
axles and wheel sets for the Indian Railways.
Bullets trains which moves with magnetic instead of iron wheels.

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT
 Production is the process by which raw materials and other inputs are




converted into finished products and creation of value for the final product
which is the wheel and axles.
Plant utilizes Railway scrap as raw material. The scrap is melted in three
Electric Arc furnaces.
Wheel Manufacturing: The casting is done in graphite moulds, which are
precision-machined using forming tools.
Axle Manufacturing: Axles are manufactured from billets cut from blooms
supplied by reputed indigenous Steel Plants.
Wheel set Assembling :The Wheel Press Complex is capable of pressing
180 wheel sets per day. A new Wheel Assembly Complex, with a capacity to
produce up to 300 wheel sets per day,
MARKETING DEPARTMENT
 Mr. R.K. Sinha is the Chief Material Manager, he has to supply minimum 60% of
the ordered quantity.

 STRENGTHS
Timely delivery and maintenance of raw materials.

Monitoring the raw materials is not done regularly.

The capacity of the storage can be increased to store more raw materials.

Defective raw materials may affect the production.
