• Minas Gerais is the 2nd state in Brazil harboring biotechnologic based
companies which comprises 30% of the national enterprises.
• Minas Gerais has important universities such as UFMG and various
research institutes with tradition in Human and Animal Medicine,
Biochemistry, Pharmacy and Agronomy.
• UFMG has more than 160 researchers with a Ph.D. in biological
sciences and more than 60% of its patents are related to
biotechnology.
• Biotechnology is very promising in terms of technological
development of Minas Gerais.
