Life Skills ◦ Hard work ◦ Cooperation ◦ Time management ◦ Devotion ◦ Commitment Sportsmanship Begins with the adults ○ Administration/Coaches/Parents ○ Appreciate good plays from both teams ○ If you do not have anything good to say then do not say anything at all ○ Officials are human and are members of our/or neighboring communities ○ Rivalries are better when we have mutual respect and friendship ○ Introduce yourself to our guests whenever it is appropriate Who knows… you may make a new friend! Positive relationships ◦ Successful teams stem from teammates who are able to get along ◦ Develop lifelong friends Positive outlet ◦ Exercise ◦ Stress relief High Expectations ◦ High participation numbers For each activity In the stands ◦ Raising the bar for those who follow ◦ Pushing ourselves or those in front of us to achieve more Ask Yourself ◦ “Did I do enough today to be a State Champion or be a part of a State Championship Team?” Respect ◦ Yourself Don’t do anything to jeopardize your success or that of your teammates! ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ Your Your Your Your sport school family community There is a direct relationship between school attendance and student achievement. The fewer school days students miss during the year, the more successful they are in the classroom. If you are absent from school for a school sponsored event, you may practice, play in a game, or take part in a performance that day. If you are absent from school for a limited number of periods for a medical, dental, optometrist, etc., appointment, you can participate with approval from the administration. A written excuse from the doctor is required. You may attend practice, play in games, or participate in performances with administrative approval if absent for a court appearance, bereavement, a family emergency, or some other reason deemed acceptable by the administration. If you are home sick and do not come to school for all or part of the day or are absent from any class (excused or unexcused) you may not practice, play, or participate in performance. It is not in the best interest of our participants to be practicing or performing when ill. If you are in school but are absent from class for reasons deemed unexcused, you may not participate in games, practices, or performances that day. Out of school suspension includes suspension from school sponsored extracurricular activities. This will be treated as an unexcused absence from the activity. No form…No practice or tryout! All students participating in high school athletics will be required to pay a sports activities fee. The money raised from this fee helps with the financial support of the activity that the student benefits from, though it pays for only a small portion of the actual expense of the activity. The amount is $65.00 per child per activity. ◦ $35 for managers Participants must abide by the terms of the District’s Chemical Dependency Prevention Policy and the following terms of this Activities Policy: No drinking or possession of alcoholic beverages No use or possession of illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia No use or possession of tobacco in any form Includes e-cigarettes or other look alike devices No attendance at a party where alcohol/drugs are consumed Violations will be cumulative from the student’s first day of participation in any activity in the high school. The coach/advisor/director has the authority and the responsibility to suspend any participant from practice or competition for violation of activities policy until a meeting is arranged with the parents or guardians. The coach/advisor/director or activities director will contact the parents/guardians within 24 hours if a participant is suspended. The coach/advisor/director or activities director has the authority to investigate if he/she suspects violation of the activities policy. Due process will be followed in each disciplinary case. The student and the coach/advisor/director or activities director will meet in conference with the parents/guardians prior to a student being dismissed from the team for a violation of training rules. The meeting will take place at the earliest convenient time. Please address any concerns with the person you have a concern with first. If you feel uncomfortable with that, talk with their superior and arrange a conference with all parties involved. Always wait 24 hours before talking with the person. Please do not talk to them on the field, course or court after a contest. I believe in our coaches and expect them to be professional in all aspects of their duties. The school district does not provide medical insurance benefits for students who choose to participate in activities programs. Medical insurance is highly suggested for the students to participate. I understand the Belgrade High School Coaching Staff will take all reasonable precautions to insure that the risk of injury to their athletes is minimized. However, even though these precautions are taken, there is still a chance of injury and death. I have been informed of these risks, understand them and feel that the benefits of participation outweigh the risks involved. My signature below gives my child permission to participate in a Belgrade High School Activity. (Copied from the form in the booklet) All participants must travel to and return from all out of town activities with the team, unless written permission is granted by their parents, and the coaches/advisors/directors have given their approval. Participants may be released to travel with their parents/guardians only. They must sign out, on a travel release form, with their coach/advisor/director Teams are built when they have camaraderie that is developed after a victory as well as after a defeat. District only provides meals during the postseason Get involved with the booster club to help raise funds, so money may be available to assist a team in this regard. Coaches will inform their team if they need a sack lunch or meal money for the trip. MHSA/U.S. Bank Sportsmanship program ○ Recognizing a player from both teams during designated games/matches Belgrade has a reputation for hosting outstanding sporting events and programs. This cannot be accomplished without the help of many volunteers. If you desire to help in anyway, please contact the Activities office: ◦ 924-2551 ◦ skonklol@belgradeschools.com ◦ we are in need of help all the time…please call to volunteer! Probably the hardest thing a coach has to do is to finalize his/her team. They understand, that many times, the players involved have dedicated endless hours, even years, to their development. Then it becomes the opinion of the coaching staff as to who they will keep on their team. Coaches weigh many factors in their decision and it is not always based on skill alone. ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ Attitude Dedication Hustle Team chemistry All are contributing factors If the players and parents desire a conference regarding their child following the finalization of teams, we as an athletic staff would be more than happy to accommodate you. Please contact the Coach or the Activities office to set an appointment. ◦ Activities Office 924-2551 ◦ rphillips@belgradeschools.com MUST BE COMPLETE IN ORDER TO COMPETE Deadline for Winter Booklets – Wednesday, November 19, 2014 Please check the front of the booklet for the pages that require signatures.
