About College Summit
College Summit raises the college enrollment and success rates
of participants in low-income/ first generation communities by
helping them connect-the-dots between their future college and
career goals and the academic choices they make each day.
“College Summit provides clarity for my students as I prepare them for a tertiary environment.
Students eat up the information because no one has shown them how possible college can be
for them. As students see the possibility and believe in themselves, their academics improve and
their attitude towards academics and work ethics blossoms. College Summit students are so
much more prepared and confident before going out into the real world. This program has
enlightened educators, administrators, parents and students. It has changed lives!"
Richard Williams, an educator at Miami Northwestern High School

College- Career Going Culture: The WHY?
A college-career going culture builds the expectation of
postsecondary education for all students—not just the best
students.
Research illustrates the link between a high school’s college-going culture and
postsecondary success:
• High school graduates who make the connection between college and career are
more than six times as likely to earn a bachelor’s degree. (Reclaiming the American
Dream, The Bridgespan Group, 2006)
• College-going culture is found to be one of the top two drivers of high academic
performance in low-Income high schools (From High School to the Future: Potholes
on the Road to College, Chicago Consortium on School Research, 2008 – Chicago
Consortium for School Research

Data and Reporting
Organizational leaders need reliable, regular information and data so that they can
track postsecondary outcomes along with early warning signs to spot participants
who may be falling off-track. College Summit provides two kinds of reports to give
educators as much actionable data as possible.
Milestone Reports (Weekly) MR
These reports offer a snapshot of progress toward leading postsecondary planning
indicators such as the number of participants who have completed the FAFSA on
time, or completed key activities like crafting a college list or personal statement, etc.

Data and Reporting Continued
College Enrollment/Persistence Rate Reports (Annual) CER
College Summit verifies college enrollment of all high school graduates at partner schools
against college registrar data maintained by the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC).
All participant data is processed, stored, and analyzed using the College Summit Data
Warehouse, an internal, secure database built and supported by our national partner
Deloitte.
DOE –FAFSA Pilot Completion Program (Bi-Monthly)
College Summit has been a lead partner with MDCPSD in the FAFSA Completion
Project designed to assist local educational agencies (LEAs) and secondary school
administrators in determining which of their participants have completed a Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the upcoming school year.

Implementing College Summit …..
Each partner organization benefits from year-round, onsite
coaching by a local College Summit staff person. Our regional
staff work closely with organizational leaders, counselors and
teachers to troubleshoot and train as needed.
Because each organization is unique, part of this consulting will
include determining the best implementation model.
For most organizations, College Summit recommends dedicating
60-90 minutes each week to a postsecondary planning process.
