CUMMING SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
2016 UME Accreditation
What is Accreditation?
 Accreditation is a peer-review process designed to
attest to the educational quality of new and
established educational programs.
 It ensures that medical schools are compliant with
established standards.
 Accreditation is intended to be a continuous quality
improvement process, rather than just periodic visits
to assess compliance.
CUMMING SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
Accrediting Bodies
 CACMS - Committee on Accreditation of Canadian
Medical Schools (under AFMC)
 LCME – Liaison Committee on Medical Education
(jointly sponsored by the AAMC and AMA)
 Canadian medical education programs receive both
CACMS and LCME accreditation under the same
review process.
