CUMMING SCHOOL OF MEDICINE 2016 UME Accreditation What is Accreditation? Accreditation is a peer-review process designed to attest to the educational quality of new and established educational programs. It ensures that medical schools are compliant with established standards. Accreditation is intended to be a continuous quality improvement process, rather than just periodic visits to assess compliance. CUMMING SCHOOL OF MEDICINE Accrediting Bodies CACMS - Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (under AFMC) LCME – Liaison Committee on Medical Education (jointly sponsored by the AAMC and AMA) Canadian medical education programs receive both CACMS and LCME accreditation under the same review process.
