Tourism in Morocco had a proactive strategy launched with several structural measures being taken over the past years. It was a very serious and dynamic vision, which allowed us to double the number of tourists – from 4 million in 2004 to roughly 10 million in 2010, to triple the income of the sector, to double the bed capacity in Morocco and to position tourism today as one of the main economy sectors in Morocco representing roughly 10% of its GDP Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Canada CABC Economic Forum 06-07 March 2012 Sectorial Strategies Part of Morocco Green Plan: The Agropole of Meknes The Green Morocco Plan's strategy concerns a sector which contributes 19% of the GNP, with 15% from agriculture and 4% from agro-industry. This sector employs more than 4 million rural inhabitants, and has created approximately 100,000 jobs in the agroindustry sector. It also plays an important social role as 80% of the 14 million rural inhabitants depend on revenues from the agricultural sector. It is important to remember that the sector is directly responsible for the food security of 30 million consumers.
