Capacity Development
UNDP supports Belize in developing national and local
capacities for human development and achievement of the
MDGs via four main areas, and attention to cross-cutting
themes like gender, HIV/AIDS*, and capacity development:
Poverty Reduction and Achievement of the MDGs - The countdown to
2015
Democratic Governance - Providing an enabling environment
Crisis Prevention and Recovery - Building back better
Environment and Sustainable Development - Adapting to a new reality

(HSS), “Accelerating the Pace: Reaching Marginalized

 Reduce the sexual transmission of HIV among MARPs:
young people, MSM, FSW
 Improve the quality of life of PWH and children infected and
affected by HIV/AIDS in Belize and Stann Creek Districts



Focused on achieving MDG 7 Target 7c: water and
sanitation indicators
Building from the MAF pilot (Belize is one of the 10 pilots
worldwide), water governance project:
• Strengthen the Capacity of Water Boards (supply side)
• Promote Governance Practices for local ownership of water
systems and sanitation services (demand side)


