NOTES ON THE SOUNDTRACK Music for the soundtrack of the film IO STO CON LA SPOSA (On the bride’s side) was written and played by the ensemble Dissòi Lògoi, an open formation project founded at the end of the ‘80s by Franco Parravicini and Alberto Morelli and that, on this occasion, avails itself of the cooperation of Federico Sanesi, Tommaso Leddi and Matteo Maltauro. The name Dissòi Lògoi, that in Greek means “contrasting arguments”, explains the multiple stylistic influences shaping the music of this project. Some critics have ranked Dissòi Lògoi among frontier music, others among new Mediterranean music, some again within ethno jazz ... but framing Dissòi Lògoi inside a music genre would be restrictive, because of the many voices making up their conversation. Certainly it’s a project making of cross-cultural and multicultural experiences its flag. The sound track of IO STO CON LA SPOSA is made up of 10 original tracks, each of which was conceived and recorded starting from film script and editing. In some cases the composition follows very precisely the scene action and in other cases the film editing adapted itself to the composition, adjusting the rhythm of video editing to the sound flow of the sound track. We made recourse to instruments, scales, rhythmic and technical-executive structures linked to music traditions of the Mediterranean sea and Middle East, sometimes pushing on as far as India and sub-saharian Africa, interacting with instruments and composition modes closer to the contemporary and western culture. We also used primitive instruments such as shells that, because of their archetypal features, refer to the common root of all cultures. Besides, the sound of conchs evokes the dimension of see and journey pervading the life of the memory-bearers that tell about themselves in the film IO STO CON LA SPOSA. The song of Tasnim is an elaboration of a traditional middle Eastern tune that the bride/Tasnim sings before crossing the last eagerly desired Swedish frontier. In this track, the diegetic dimension of the live song interlaces with the extragetic dimension of the composition. Tariq Manar, literally the journey of Manar, was composed in tandem with Mosè dei C.O.V. and Mc Manar. Below is the list of the tracks in the listening order, the respective authors and the instruments used.
