Rectangular prism Triangular prism Space figures Cylinder Square prism (cube) Space figures To name a space figure, we first look at the shape of the base. There are two of them. If the base is a square, the space figure is a square prism. If the base is a triangle, the space figure is a triangular prism, If the base is a circle, the space is a cylinder. Try This Name the following space figures: Try This Name the following space figures: Triangular Prism Try This Name the figure: Try This Name the figure: Cylinder Try This Name the figure: Try This Name the figure: Trapezoidal prism Space Figures and Nets If you could take a space figure such as a square prism, and take it apart so that is lies flat, you would have a shape called a net For example: This is a square prism. . . Nets And here is one way to draw the net: Nets Here is a triangular prism: Nets Here is a triangular prism: And below is the net: Notice the triangles are the bases Try This Draw the net for this figure: Try This The blue rectangles are the bases. Try This Draw the net for this cylinder: Try This Draw the net for this cylinder: It is important to see that a cylinder is 2 circles and a rectangle. 3-21-11 You have a few minutes to study for the Bellwork Quiz. 3-21-11 PA#41 Pp.523-524 #8-18, 29-34
