PAPER One important development in making books available and affordable was the development of paper. It was a lot cheaper than the animal skins that they had written on. How did Europeans gain the knowledge to make paper? • Paper was invented by the Chinese. • Arab traders learned how to make paper from the Chinese. • Europeans learned how to make paper after trading with the Arabs. How would the printing press be like the computer of the Renaissance? Everything changed with the invention of the printing press. Johann Gutenberg • Gutenberg’s printing press helped spread new ideas throughout Europe. • It used movable type for mass production.
