Alive-O 4 Term 3: Lesson 1 Mary Our Mother Mary Remembers When Jesus had been taken down from the cross and laid in the tomb, his friends took Mary, his mother, home. She was very tired. Her friends told her to try to get some rest. But she could not rest. She could not sleep. She kept thinking back over what had happened to her son. She remembered what Peter had told her – how Jesus had been very afraid and how he had gone to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray to the Father to help him and be with him, to give him strength and courage. She remembered how the soldiers had tied her son to a pillar and beaten him. She remembered the crown of thorns which they had placed on his head while they mocked him and called him ‘King of the Jews.’ She remembered the huge heavy cross which they had placed on his shoulders and forced him to carry it all the way up the hill. She remembered how he had fallen three times under the weight of the cross. She remembered his body, hanging on that cross, until eventually his strength and his breath gave up and he died. Mary said to herself, ‘I will remember these as the five most sorrowful moments in my life.’ The Rosary The Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary The First Sorrowful Mystery – The Agony in the Garden The Second Sorrowful Mystery- the Scourging at the Pillar The Third Sorrowful Mystery the Crowning with thorns The Fourth Sorrowful Mystery the Carrying of the Cross The Fifth Sorrowful Mystery the Crucifixion Bible Searches • Mt 26: 36-46; • Mk 14: 32-42; • Lk 22: 39-46 • Mt 26: 47-56; • Mk 14: 43-50 • Lk 22;47-53; •Jn 18:3-12
