These groups of educators have separate ADEPT Performance Standards and evaluation models. 4 SAFE-T . . .is the most recent ADEPT formal (summative) evaluation model for classroom-based teachers. . . . is replacing the original evaluation models: TEAM STEP FEAT TEP etc. 5 SAFE-T . . . is based on four domains (Planning, Instruction, Environment, and Professionalism), ten ADEPT Performance Standards (APSs), and 34 key elements. 6 Planning Domain APS 1: Long-Range Planning (5 key elements) APS 2: Short-Range Planning (3 key elements) APS 3: Planning Assessments & Using Data (3 key elements) 7 Instruction Domain APS 4: High Expectations for Learners (3 key elements) APS 5: Instructional Strategies (3 key elements) APS 6: Content (3 key elements) APS 7: Monitoring, Assessing, and Enhancing Learning (3 key elements) 8 Environment Domain APS 8: Maintaining an Environment That Promotes Learning (3 key elements) APS 9: Managing the Classroom (3 key elements) 9 Professionalism Domain APS 10: Fulfilling Professional Responsibilities (5 key elements) 10 SAFE-T Domains and APSs 11 SAFE-T Evidence Evidence is the documentation of teaching performance. SAFE-T templates--i.e., standardized guides for recording evidence--are available: – Teacher templates (TTs) for teachers – Evaluator templates (ETs) for evaluators SAFE-T includes six types of evidence. 12 SAFE-T Evidence 1. Long-range plan and teacher reflections [TT1] 2. Unit work sample and teacher reflections [TT2] 3. Classroom observation records [ET1] 4. Teacher reflections on observed lessons [TT3] 5. Professional performance review(s) [ET2] 6. Professional self-assessment [TT4] 13 SAFE-T Evidence All completed evidence is placed in a dossier. Judgments are based on the evidence contained in the dossier. 14 Which SAFE-T results will be used? Your preliminary evaluation results are intended to serve as a sort of “midterm progress report” for you. Only your final evaluation results are reported to the state. 15 Passing SAFE-T In order to “pass” SAFE-T, you must meet the requirements in all four domains: In the Planning Domain, you must meet at least 10 of the 11 key elements. In the Instruction Domain, you must meet at least 11 of the 12 key elements. In the Environment Domain, you must meet at least 5 of the 6 key elements. In the Professionalism Domain, you must meet at least 4 of the 5 key elements. 16 How will my SAFE-T results be used? Your SAFE-T results will be used for different purposes, depending on your – certificate level – contract level, and – previous performance. 17 How will my SAFE-T results be used? If you (1) hold an initial teaching certificate (or the equivalent), (2) are employed under an annual contract, and (3) are undergoing SAFE-T for the first time, then if you pass SAFE-T, you will have met the ADEPT requirements for eligibility to advance to a professional teaching certificate and a continuing contract. if you do not pass SAFE-T, you will be eligible to attempt SAFE-T one additional time during a subsequent academic year, either in your present school district or in another school district in the state. You must pass SAFE-T in order to be eligible for certificate and contract 18 advancement. How will my SAFE-T results be used? If you (1) hold a professional teaching certificate based on out-of-state reciprocity, (2) are employed under an annual contract, and (3) are undergoing SAFE-T for the first time, then if you pass SAFE-T, you will have met the ADEPT requirements for eligibility to advance to a continuing contract. if you do not pass SAFE-T, you will be eligible to attempt SAFE-T one additional time during a subsequent academic year, either in your present school district or in another school district in the state. You will be allowed up to two attempts pass SAFE-T in order to be eligible for 19 contract advancement. How will my SAFE-T results be used? If you (1) hold an initial teaching certificate (or the equivalent), (2) are employed under an annual contract, and (3) have failed an ADEPT formal evaluation during a previous school year, then if you pass SAFE-T, you will have met the ADEPT requirements for eligibility to advance to a professional teaching certificate and a continuing contract. if you do not pass SAFE-T, the state must suspend your teaching certificate for a minimum of two years, and you will need to complete additional course work, as specified by the state, in order to have your certificate reinstated. 20 How will my SAFE-T results be used? If you (1) hold a professional teaching certificate and (2) are employed under a continuing contract, your district may use your final SAFE-T results as a factor in determining your eligibility for continued employment in the district. 21 SAFE-T Information To help you prepare to successfully complete SAFE-T, you should receive the following additional information/materials: SAFE-T Guide for Teachers and Evaluators Electronic copies of the teacher templates (TTs) Your district’s SAFE-T calendar The names of the members of your evaluation team 22 SAFE-T If you have additional questions about SAFE-T, please contact your district’s ADEPT coordinator or the person who conducted this orientation. 23
