Podio v Trello Project Management Software Matthew Butcher V So what is Project Management… Project management is a feature that plays an integral part in a successful project. This involves having a leader that has a range of capabilities and can lead a team successfully. Plan for the future Organize what project sub-sections need to be completed Motivate all team members Keep track of resources used Functionality - Podio Allows for constant updates on projects with the notifications feature Private message features available to allow for team members to communicate effectively . Tasks can easily be added using the “tasks” button on the GUI. Contacts can be stored using the “in-app” address book Integration with outlook e.g calendar Functionality - Trello User friendly – through use of GUI Checklist feature so completed tasks can be marked Images can be uploaded for all members to view No cost to download and use “freemuim product” Individual profiles linked together using the internet. WI-FI connectivity 3 page setup for easy task management - To do - Doing - Done More than 1 project can be worked on at a time Limitations - Podio For the basic podio you can only have a maximum of five users More advanced packages require a minimum subscription fee of $9 which equates to £5.61 No training is given until the top membership is purchased No GANT chart feature enabled for easy time management. Limitations - Trello Some users found the application layout slightly confusing No access to a GANT chart which is enabled in rival software e.g. Microsoft project It would be better if users were able to input a deadline date with the imminent deadlines being prioritized. Collaborative Working – Podio Podio has been designed in order to allow collaborative working. This is carried out by using individual employee profiles that can be linked together in order for the project leader to delegate tasks to each employee. The jobs listed are accessible from all employee’s tablet devices where the Podio app has been installed previously, however internet access will be required. Collaborative working - Trello Trello allows for the use of collaborative working within the app. Trello uses a system based on a users individual profile and username allowing them to connect over WI-FI for successful communication between team members. User Reviews - Podio Chris Jansen Feb 1, 2013 “More than just a project management tool. Virtually an entire back office for essential management of projects, customer relations and abilities to link with other cloud based tools.” 5 out of 5 – Google Store User Reviews - Trello Jules Verne Reyes Oct 16, 2013 “If you can navigate your way through Facebook then using Trello should be a breeze. But don't let its laid back and informal UI fool you. It's still a powerful tool that you and your teams can utilize for just about any project management endeavor. Awesome in its simplicity.” 5 out of 5 – Google store Podio in operation This is how the in-app task manager appears when using podio. You navigate using one tap on screen on the three tabs Trello In operation An example of the “To Do” feature that project managers would consistently use allowing them to successful manage a project using trello. Different tasks are added for projects using the + button in the top right hand corner. Which one is best for our project? Overall I have come to the conclusion that TRELLO would be the best project management software to use Free to download, as many user profiles as you want. - Some groups have more than five members so podio would incur a cost on a project that has a budget of zero • In my opinion, the 3 page layout is much clearer to understand in Trello compared to Podio, - It’s easier to compare tasks when you can slide between pages. Which one is best for our project? -1 Both pieces of software are informal in the way they are presented to the user. Suitable for more compressed projects I.E the ALL project, less suitable for larger projects. Powerful but Compact. Trello uses Facebook integration to make user profiles. This is benefical for our ALL project because almost all teenagers have Facebook therefore this feature would be used by all our team members. Which one is best for our project? -2 Collaborative working is a key part to the success of the ALL project. Trello uses a unique login code for each profile to connect profiles together. This makes trello the best for our project as it’s simple, quick and easy for everyone to understand. No complicated information required.
