Each block is flat on the one side, known as “yang”, and round on the other, known as “yin”. Long time ago, people used to cast shells( a kind of ancient coin) to request answer from deity. Now, shells turn into wooden blocks we are using. Yes: different sides, meaning god agrees. Confused: both sides are flat, meaning god doesn’t understand what you are asking for and is also laughing at you. Or just the time hasn’t come yet. No: both sides are round, meaning god doesn’t allow your request. 1st: circle a pair of divination blocks around the censor 3 times. 第二個步驟:跪在神明面前說自己的名字、生日、住在哪裡、 要問什麼事情(事情就是是非題) 2nd: kneel down before god and say your name, birthday, address, and question( must be a yes-no question) 第三個步驟:將筊杯合在掌心拋出觀察神明的回答。 3rd: hold divination blocks in your palm, then cast them to the ground to see the answer from god. Generally, you could ask god the same question 3 times, but some say it is forcing god to make agreement to your request.
