Intro Background Aims Why How • An official United Nations international observance day • Every year on 25 June • Organized by the International Maritime Organization • Reaches millions of people worldwide Aims of Day of the Seafarer 2014: Seafarers brought me… Intro Background Aims Why How • Celebrate seafarers around the world • Engage seafarers themselves to tell us about (and share photos of) their life at sea • Engage the public to tell us what seafarers have brought to them, and to thank seafarers for doing so Why you should be involved Intro Background Aims Why How Each of us, as consumers and citizens, has a responsibility to thank the world’s largest unseen workforce and give them a voice. “Seafarers Brought Me” highlights the often “invisible” role that seafarers play in our lives every day, whilst delivering more than 90% of the world’s goods. How you can be involved Intro Background Aims Why How This year’s campaign calls on participants (the general public, organizations, Governments, etc.) to complete the sentence “Seafarers brought me……” with a word naming an object or something specific of your choosing – and if possible, add a photo, video, and/or written message, accompanied with the simple message: “Thank you, seafarers”.
