lifeguards and shallow ends, but we also teach children
how to swim.”

Have you ever used the internet to comment
on things you’ve seen or read, research, share
information, communicate with friends, play
games or go shopping?
If you answered YES to any of these then you
are a digital citizen.

What is digital citizenship?
“Digital citizenship [is] about building safe
spaces and communities, understanding how to
manage personal information, and … using your
online presence to grow and shape your world
in a safe, creative way...”

Shaping behaviour in a digital world
As students spend significant time in both the real and virtual
worlds, it is becoming important for schools to teach young
people what it means to be a good digital citizen and to be safe
and responsible users of the internet.
Social networking is an important part of young people’s
development.
A range of resources have been developed for schools to use
when implementing digital citizenship programs.
