Open Ended Questions
General Strategies for Open-Ended Questions
 Write legibly and attempt to fill in the space you are
given. If you write using small letters and don’t fill in
much space, the ‘perception’ of the reader/grader will be
that your content is insufficient
 The writing you complete in class is much more
demanding.
 Keep it simple. This is not the time to be creative.
Open Ended Question
Read the sentence from the passage.
“New York’s compact geography and increasingly
robust bicycle infrastructure make it ideally situated
to reap significant transportation benefits from a
bike-share program.”
Explain how the author’s use of the words “compact
geography” influences the reader. Use information
from the passage to support your explanation
