Blocked websites in Sudan
Although The World Telecommunication
Standardization Assembly (WTSA-08) was adopted a
new Resolution 69 on Non discriminatory access and
use of Internet resources.
There are many websites which have been blocked in
the Sudan.
Blocked websites in Sudan
The Internet is free to be accessed by anyone,
anywhere at any time.
But, in reality, people Sudan do not have access to
Google chrome browser, Google Earth , Sourceforge.net
and many other useful web sites
• In Sudan if you try to download Google chrome you
will get this page
The java development kit JDK also has been
blocked from Sudan
Open source’ software provides great support to
software programmers in developing applications and
technology systems.
This ‘open source’ is available for free , and is
developed through contributions made by the global
community on voluntary basis.
’SourceForge.net’ is one such largest ‘ open Source’
development software that is blocked from access by
Sudan .
The blocking of above mentioned web sites from users
and developers in Sudan contradicts with the open
source philosophy and Internet freedom
The list of blocked websites also includes
Google earth
Google chrome
Google open code
Google download (Gtalk – Google gears - etc)
Oracle
Hosting companies (like godaddy)
Source forge
Any E-commerce activities
Google Play market
Sudan Complain to ITU
The Sudanese Commission for Telecommunication
(SCT) announced that it has filed a formal complaint to
the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on
sites that have been blocked in the Sudan.
The Sudanese Commission for Telecommunication
(SCT) wants to find out the "real reasons" behind the
blocking of several sites including Google chrome,
Google open code, MSN messenger, Oracle "creating
account", Source forge
Recommendation
• Routing internet traffic from Sudan through
Other countries like south Africa.
