Page 3 IPv4 Post-depletion Scenarios trials Dual-stack VPN Service trial Industrial Development, R&D Aachievements (1/4) Network assessment conducted, including audit of • • • • Network Elements (HW/SW) Management Systems IPv4 Address (Private & Public) Current / Future Services Updated of all relevant technical specs to include IPv6 requirements • Hardware • Management systems • Applications STC has Launched ISP national interconnection based on IPv6 VPN • Saudinet, Awalnet and CITC are exchanging IPv6 routs, we encourage other ISP to be part of this connection Page 4 Industrial Development, R&D Aachievements (2/4) Established IPv6 International Peering connection • IPv6 International Peering of the STC IGW with a Tier-1 upstream provider has been completed. The IPv6 address block assigned to Saudinet is now advertised on the global IPv6 Internet routing tables Verified STC’s ISP wholesale transport model is dual-stack capable • STC has verified that the current wholesale backbone transport model (for user PPP sessions) used for carrying ISP traffic can also support IPv6 Internet traffic. Therefore ISPs will be able to offer their customers both IPv4 and IPv6 Internet services without any dependencies on STC to change its PPP transport model Conducted IPv6 DSL HSI (High Speed Internet) Service PoC trials • Proof of concept trials in the STC test lab have been conducted for the dualstack (IPv4 and IPv6) Internet service model Page 5 Industrial Development, R&D IPv6 Aachievements (3/4) Conducted IPv6 Mobile HSI Service PoC trials • A proof-of-concept trial in the STC test lab have been conducted for the IPv6 Internet service over the mobile packet switched core Benchmarks & Studies for IPv6 • Transition mechanisms adoptions by leading edge operators benchmarking • Overview of IPv4 & IPv6 Coexistence Proposals & Strategies A Lab trial has been conducted with MOI • STC has invited MOI to conduct trial in STC lab to test their systems readiness for IPv6 . Page 6 Industrial Development, R&D IPv6 Aachievements (4/4) IPv6 Awareness • More than 10 presentations / workshops were conducted to STC depatments • IPv6 migration plan presentation conducted on the CITC 2009 workshop • IPv6 overview to MOI NIC • Two presentations were conducted on CITC meetings • Introduction to IPv6 were conducted to MOI Completed 85% of the IPv6 DSL HSI Pilot on the live network Page 7 Industrial Development, R&D DSL HSI PoC Trial Conclusions Element Conclusion STC network Ready Saudinet Ready User Dual-stack CPE is the recommended approach MOI MOI must be IPv6 ready before IPv6 Internet services launch Page 8 Industrial Development, R&D Transition mechanisms adoptions by leading edge operators Internet Service Acess IETF Transition Mechanism Pilot Trial(s) Service Launch Time Frame Softbank (Japan) Fixed (DSL and FTTH) 6RD + CGN 2009 2010 France Telecom Orange Fixed (DSL) DS-Lite (inc.
