Those who argue this often use the character of Junior in The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian as evidence. They point to page 67 when the author shows Rowdy leaving the Reservation for an all white school in order to achieve his dream. The author writes on page 67 that Junior is finally “going to a place that was completely opposite of the Rez.” Though it is true that this evidence shows that character of Junior is able to work hard and get an education the evidence does not show that Junior is attaining the American Dream. In the text, the character of Junior does not leave the a life of poverty or create a new life for his family. He is simply shown as going to a better school and making new friends.
