Guidance cannot be finalised until Ofqual have responded to the results of the
Practical Endorsement trialling carried out in a number of centres across the
country in Autumn 2014. IT IS A TRIAL ACROSS ALL AWARDING BODIES.

What % assesses practical skills?
• Minimum of 15% (Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
What % assesses mathematical content?
• Minimum of 10% (Biology), 20% (Chemistry), 40% (Physics)
Why multiple choice?
• A chance to assess a larger range of content
Why extended response ?
• Not essays, not focused on QWC of specific terminology, more
about ‘logical, coherent, sustained responses’. Some will be
marked using Level of Response mark schemes. Have been
used in ALL GCSE Science papers since 2011.
