*Text structures are patterns of organizing ideas.
*These text structures appear in all kinds of writing including:
- narrative
- explanatory/informational
- argumentative
*Writers choose text structures to use according to the needs of the topic and the
audience.
Cornell Notes: Description/Elaboration
*Description/Elaboration is a text structure that provides supporting details to main
ideas.
*Writers give supporting details through:
- facts
- statistics
- examples or events
- sensory details (the five senses)
*Description helps "paint a picture" for the reader
