“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
CREATED FOR JOY
• We are more than an
accident of evolution
• He loves us.
• He made us in his image to
share in his joy.
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
CREATED FOR JOY
“Promising love for ever is possible
when we perceive a plan bigger than
our own ideas and undertakings, a
plan which sustains us and enable us
to surrender our future entirely to
the one we love”
Pope Francis
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
CREATED FOR JOY
• Jesus is the source for the hope,
faith, love and joy that should
animate Catholic family life.
• For many people, we have no
higher purpose than whatever
meaning we create for ourselves.
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
PURPOSE
• A longing for purpose is a
universal human experience.
•



LOGING FOR PURPOSE
“Who am I?”
“Why I am here?”
“How should I live?”
• For many people, we have no
higher purpose than whatever
meaning we create for ourselves.
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
Trust in Jesus
• Many people honestly seek
meaning, but don't know whom
to trust.
• In midst of this uncertainty,
Christians are the people trust in
JESUS.
• “In man’s history, [the]
revelation of love and mercy has
taken a form and a name : that
of Jesus Christ.” - St. John Paul II
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
Trust in Jesus
• Jesus asks disciples “Who do you
say that I am?
• Christians are the people who
met Jesus in various ways:
 Scripture, Sacrament, in Prayer, Service
to the poor, friends and family.
• We say with Peter “You are the
Messiah, the Son of the living
God”.
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
God whom we trust wants us to flourish.
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
To those who suffer, God does not
provide arguments which explains
everything; rather his response is
that of an accompanying presence.
-Pope Francis
Christ is the one who, having
endured suffering, is the “pioneer
and perfecter of our faith”
-Pope Francis.
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
Created for Joy
• Jesus reveals our human identity
and destiny.
• “The truth is that only in the
mystery of the incarnate Word
does the mystery of man take on
light” II Vatican council.
• The root reason for human
dignity lies in man’s call to
communion with God.
• Man cannot live fully according
to truth unless he freely
acknowledges that love and
devotes himself to his Creator.
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
Image of God
“It is love that makes the human
person the authentic image of the
blessed Trinity, [the] image of God”
Pope Benedict XVI.
Having been created in the image of
God suggests that our true joy and
fulfillments lie in knowing, loving,
and serving one anther as God does.
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
Image of God
•We are created in the “image of God”
• God is to be a Trinity of communion Father, Son & Holy Spirit
• To be a person we need communion.
• Being a person in the image and likeness of
God thus also involves existing in a
relationship, in relation to the other ‘I’.
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
Likeness of God
We are created in the “likeness of
God”
•
•
To say that we are created in the likeness
of God means that man is called to exist
‘for’ others, to become a gift.
To save our lives we must lose them to
God. (Mt 10.39, 16:25).
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
LOVE is our MISSION
“God created man in his own image and likeness: calling him
to existence though love, he called him at the same time for
love. God is love and in himself he lives a mystery of personal
loving communion. Crating the human race in his own image
and continually keeping it in being, God inscribed in the
humanity of man and woman the vocation, and thus the
capacity and responsibility, of love and communion,. Love is
therefore the fundamental and innate vocation of every human
being.”
-Familaris Consortia
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
God works through us. We have a mission. We are in
the world for a purpose-to receive God’s love
ourselves and to show God’s love to others, God seeks
to heal a broken universe. He asks us to be his
witness and helpers in that work.
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
The Mission of Love
• Gods way of living
becomes the measure of
human love.
• Go’s way is the better way,
but not always easier way!
• Biblical images of Gods
love
• Welcoming of prodigal son (Lk
15:11-32).
• Good shepherd (Lk 15:11-32).
• Lost sheep (Lk 15:3-7)
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
The Mission of Love
“God loves his people. Need, biblical
revelation is above all an expression of a
love story, the story of God’s covenant with
human kind. This is why the story of the
union of life an love between a man and a
woman in the covenant of marriage was
used b God a a symbol of salvation
history.”
-Pope Benedict XVI
“…because I live, you will also live” Jn. 14:19
The Mission of Love
“Marriage based on exclusive and
definitive love becomes the icon of the
relationship between God and his
people and vice versa.” -Pope Benedict XVI
"To have life and have it abundantly" Jn.10:10
The Mission of Love
By contemplating the pierced side of
Christ, we can understand…God is
love. It is there that this truth can be
contemplated. It is from there that
our definition of love must begin. In
this contemplation the Christian
discovers the path along which his
life and love must move.” Pope
Benedict XVI
