Pakistan movement 1885-1947 Ideology of Pakistan War of independence and the subsequent role of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan Growth of Separatism and Two Nation Theory Allama Muhammad Iqbal – Idea of Pakistan Overview of Muslim politics in United India from 1906 to 1940 Demand of Pakistan and its fulfilment under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-I- Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. 2. Political and Constitutional development: Constitutional Developments from 1947 to 1956 Objective Resolution 1956 Constitution 1962 and 1973 Constitutions Returning of Democracy Democracy vs. Authoritarianism 3. Society and Culture Cultural roots Role of religion in society Social life, Culture and Languages Ethnic diversity and pluralism Ethnic and Linguistic Problems Social and Economic Problems Human rights Gender issues 8 4. Foreign Policy of Pakistan: An overview of Pakistan’s foreign policy geo-strategic importance of Pakistan Basic principles and goals of Pakistan’s foreign policy Regional and international environment 9 5. Pakistan in Modern Nation state system Pakistan’s Relations with its neighboring countries Pakistan and Muslim World Pakistan’s role in regional and International Organizations i.e. United Nations, SAARC, OIC, Non Aligned Movement (NAM), ASEAN etc. Post 9/11 Pakistan Pakistan and War on terrorism Methodology Class Lectures and Discussions will be the method of teaching and learning Readings will be recommended/provided, but students should have to prepare their notes themselves Study will be based on analysis and critics but not just on narration of events 11 Cramming will be strongly discouraged 50 % course is consisted of Daily newspaper knowledge, So daily newspaper reading is highly recommended.
